The stats are in!

The stats are in and Killian is one chunky kid :) But in all seriousness, both the boys are very healthy and as parents, we couldn't be happier. Today was a shinning star of doctor's appointments in the last four months let me tell you. After battling many illnesses since March, including pneumonia and both the boys having surgery to get tubes, we really needed the glowing report we received today.


The morning started off early but great! I had a meeting to discuss Killian's graduation from early childhood intervention (mainly his physical therapy) and where he places in all the different areas. If you can remember back to when he was six months old, we started him in physical therapy because of his torticollis and plagiocephaly, and all of the delays that they created. Poor little guy could barely hold his head up. His stats back then were as follows: Cognitive - 6 months old; Communication - 4 months old; Social/Emotional - 5 months old; Physical Development - 6 months old; Adaptive Behavior (self-help skills) - 8 months old. Now at this point they looked at him as a four and a half month old because of his preemie age-adjustment, but it still made me nervous and sad to see some of his levels below his age. Well today at fifteen months old he scores at or above his age, and this is without adjusting for his preemie age. Cognitive - 17 months old; Communication - 15 months old; Social-Emotional - 18 months old; Physical Development - 16 months old; Adaptive Behavior (self-help skills) - 17 months old. Clint and I are just so proud of the little monster - he has really come a long way since six months old.

So now for the 15 month stats. Graham is still on the little side when it comes to weight, although the doctor was very happy with his weight gain in the last few months (if you'll remember, he actually lost a few pounds so he had to gain the lost ones back and then some). He weighs 23 pounds and 4 ounces and is in the 30th percentile. His height of 30.5 inches is in the 48th percentile and his head at 46 and 3/4 centimeters is in the 49th percentile. Everything on him looks healthy (except for some eczema that is causing his ear lobes to bleed) and she doesn't seem to be concerned about his lack of walking. What we have discovered with Graham is that he is very capable of standing on his own as we have seen it several times. The little booger just doesn't want to do it. If he is distracted then he doesn't notice he is standing and will stand for awhile, but once he realizes he is doing it, he will bend his knees and get himself back down to sitting. She seems to think that one day he will just get up and do it on his own. This, along with seeing him take his first steps at school yesterday, gives me great hope.


Killian is doing quite well just like his brother. His stats are a little higher than Graham but I guess that's just KB for you. Killian is weighing in at a whopping 26 pounds and 3 ounces and is in the 70th percentile (wow!). That's one ounce shy of being 3 pounds heavier than his brother. His height is 31.5 inches and is in the 70th percentile. Yep - that's one inch taller than his brother. (Keep in mind that these stats are the farthest apart they have ever been). And lastly is a wowza. Killian's huge melon dome head is 48 centimeters and is in the 75th percentile. He is also a very healthy boy and the only concern we have with him is a persistent rash on his legs. So we're treating it with creams and ointments right now and then on Friday we'll be taking him in to get his blood tested for food and seasonal allergies. We are crossing our fingers that it is nothing (because really, haven't we dealt with enough?) but we want to go ahead and get these tests out of the way.


Both are really doing so well and the doctor gave them wonderful glowing reports! If all goes well (and knock on wood that it does) we shouldn't have to go in for another three months for our next well-visit and set of shots. Oh yeah, shots today was no fun but they both got to pick a prize out of the treasure box and they loved that!
